Re-modelling
Three of the most common questions asked when wanting to re-model or re-design a piece of jewellery are:
- How much will it cost me?
- How long does it usually take?
- What parts of my old jewellery will be re-used?
There are many different factors that will determine all three of these answers as no two pieces of individually made jewellery are the same.
One of the major benefits of using your old jewellery to re-design into something else is that usually the bigger part of the cost of the piece has already been bought years before, being your diamond or gem stone.
This means that the cost of re-designing is usually far less then purchasing a new item out of a shop window.
In terms of using precious metals from your old jewellery to make the new piece from, there are two options that we offer to you. Firstly if the metal is from quality materials in some circumstances we are able to work with these materials to create your newly designed piece. However in instances such as old chains and bracelets it is sometimes better to use new materials to ensure the highest quality of the new piece of jewellery as metal quality varies greatly with chains that are imported or sold through large jewellery stores. Each client does vary and we are happy to sit with you and go through what may and may not be used in regards to your old gold.
The time it takes to make a piece of jewellery from start to finish again has many determining factors.
From the time you sit down with Ashley or Doug and go through any ideas you have or designs you may have seen that appeal to your tastes and once we have sketched an artists impression of what the proposed design might look like to the time it takes to make set and finish can range anywhere from 3-8 weeks.
It is most important when designing a special piece of jewellery that is going to live with you, and be a part of your life, to make sure it is exactly what you want. This is why Ashley and Douglas spend signficant time in the design phase of the consultations with our clients to ensure that we understand what it is your after and in doing so allows you to make changes to the design before it ever nears the jewellers bench.
This ensures the client of total control over design integrity.
If you have an existing piece of jewellery and would like to turn it into something new, do not hesitate to contact us for a consultation.
